UB North Class of 2026 Spring graduates encourage to enter their next chapter boldly

The University of The Bahamas (UB)North held its Spring 2026 commencement ceremony in the campus courtyard on June 4, 2026 under the theme: ‘Honour-ing the Journey that Shaped Us, Embracing the Future that Called Us.’

During his address, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Science and Technology, the Hon..Chester Cooper told the 29 students who were graduating with Diplomas, Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Business Administration, Architecture, Education and Science that he is even more optimistic about the country’s future.

“We’re not short on talent, we’re not short on intelligence and we’re not short on creativity. And we’re certainly not short on possibility,” he said.

 

He thanked UB North’s president, faculty, staff and administrators for the work they do to strengthen UB and prepare Bahamians for leadership and service and he commended the loved ones of each graduate who helped them reach such a significant milestone.

Minister Cooper called on the graduates-  the country’s future business leaders, innovators and nation builders –  not to forget that The Bahamas needs them.

 

“We need your talent, we need your ideas, we need your creativity and we need your leadership. Your generation will solve problems we have not yet solved. Your generation will create opportunities we cannot yet imagine, and your generation will help write the next chapter of the Bahamian story,” he said.

He also urged the graduates that, as they begin the next step along their journey, to do so boldly, think courageously, work relentlessly, remain curious and keep learning.

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey also brought rema1·ks and congratulated the graduates for the sacrifices that have been made while remind-ing them that their degree is proof that they can overcome adversity and achieve what once seemed out of reach.

“Class of 2026, your journey has shaped you. Now, the future is calling you. Answer that call with confidence, answer it with courage, answer it with purpose as you leave this ceremony and step into the next chapter of your lives, know this, Grand Bahama is proud to claim you,” she said.

Yolette McPhee-McCuin, Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team at the University of Mississippi and Bahamian pioneer delivered the keynote address, and told the graduates that everything they have gone through to get them to the point of graduation has prepared them for what they are about to become and

encouraged them to honour the journey.
